Kennel Association Show, 10 July 2016
Wynberg Well done to everyone who had entered CD at this new venue in the southern suburbs, and especially to Anne and Marina who tried CD for the first time. In Section 1 (Obedience), we saw some really great heel work, recalls and retrieves. The send-away to a tree as the marker proved to be a bit of a challenge. The 10 minute out-of-sight down-stay was spectacular, with all the dogs ignoring the guinea fowl strolling past them (much to the officials' relief). Unfortunately Jemma got up in the first minute to go and look for mom, but the other three did not budge. Lobo displayed an evil sense of humour by clearing the A-frame with ease both in the warm-up and after the test, but refusing to do the same in the test itself. Go figure. In the Nose Work section, Rex and Jemma both found the search article. After a tie for first place, JJ won the tie-breaker to take first place. Unfortunately there were no qualifications. Results: 1. Anne (JJ); 2. Marina (Jemma); 3. Theo (Rex); 4. Janine (Lobo). Thank you to judge Vincent Fry for officiating on the day. Congratulations are also due to our learner judges, Jane and Karin, who qualified as Working Trials (CD) judges on the day.
Working Trial Weekend PE 31 MarchThe first thing we found out was that some people do actually use the 5:45 in the morning time for something! (As opposed to the Afternoon one!) Thats when we had to report in, so an early start. It was really great to see so many competitors at the lower levels. It was a really good trial, well organised under difficult conditions, in a really beautiful part of the world. Sheila, Angie and I went up and had a very succesful trip. Sheila/Bronte and Angie/Quando are now Tracker Dog champions and Richard/Rummy got their first TD3 qualification. We also got some homework as we found that our send aways are just not robust enough and they can cost a qualification. All in all, a very good weekend for us. Quandos track was an absolute joy to watch on Sunday - he really is very good at it.

Working Trial Weekend 18-19 August 2012What a great day - on Saturday! After so much rain, most of us had forgotten what it was like to be out in the sun. The photo's here are from the Saturday event. Gill and Dax qualified TD1 for the first time, while Jane and Katy qualified in CD. Unfortunately, the tracking proved really difficult with the odd rabbit making it even more challenging! A great day none the less!

ITT Saturday 19/5/12Oh well, a bad day out in the fields for us! The tracking on plough was tough for us, but the day was great. We learned a bit, tried new conditions and had a great morning! Sheila and Bronte just made it with 70% in ITT3, but that was it, I'm afraid!

Photo's from our tracking seminarHere are some photo's taken by Camilla during our recent tracking seminar. These photo's were taken on the second day. Nice to see some new dogs out in the fields!

CD at CHDC 11/2/12 Our first show of the year! On the down side, only 2 and a half entries, but on the up side, it was Gills first show as a judge! And she did a great job!!
We had perfect conditions for the show, but not so perfect results! Its only the start of the season, so it was a great way to get of the rust. Dax decided not to do the A frame, although I have the evidence of him doing it perfectly in practice! And Charlie went walk about on the send away - not that we blame him! There were different definitions of the send away marker - The competitors called it a pebble and the judges called it a rock! Oh well, that's the thing with working trials - you can get anything! Otherwise, I think both competitors would be pleased - they got the things right that they normally struggle with, so qualification is not too far off. Rummy still has stitches, so we couldn't do the agility section, and we bombed on the area search by 4 seconds. The "man of the match" award has to go to Judge Gill for her first event as a judge! The "play of the day" must go to Charles for his 14 second retrieve of the article in the area search! (OK, it was more like 12.5 seconds...) I hardly had time to get the video! 1st was Dax, second Charles and lastly, Rummy! |
